The Department of Pediatrics at The Children’s Hospital of Michigan, Central Michigan University College of Medicine, University Pediatricians, is recruiting a Board Certified Pediatric Cardiac Electrophysiologist at the Assistant to Professor academic ranks to join the only Pediatric/Congenital Heart Electrophysiology program in the greater Detroit area. IBHRE certification is strongly recommended. The position includes an academic appointment at Central Michigan University College of Medicine with salary commensurate with academic rank, training and experience.

The successful applicant must be licensed/licensable to practice in the state of Michigan and will join current Pediatric Electrophysiologists, dedicated EP nurse practitioner as well as 13 other Pediatric cardiologists, 2 congenital heart surgeons and 7 other mid-level providers in Detroit’s largest Pediatric/Congenital Heart program. The position includes invasive and non-invasive cardiac electrophysiology services provided by the Division of Cardiology. Some general cardiology duties, inpatient and outpatient consultations as well as Cardiology Fellow and Resident/Medical Student teaching are to be expected. As a university-based academic program, there are opportunities for clinical, translational and basic science research.

The Children’s Hospital of Michigan, established in 1886, is the oldest freestanding pediatric hospital in the state. The 228-bed facility has an international reputation in pediatric medicine, surgery and research, training more pediatricians than any other facility in Michigan. The hospital engages in groundbreaking research that has long shaped the science of pediatric medicine and is consistently ranked by US News & World Report as one of America’s best pediatric hospitals. The facility is the teaching hospital for Central Michigan, Wayne State, and Michigan State Universities Colleges of Medicine. In addition to full Pediatric general and sub-specialty in-hospital services, there is a 24 bed dedicated Cardiac ICU, 37-bed Regional Level IV NICU, and 36 bed general PICU. A ground and air transport service provides patient transport throughout the region.
The Cardiology Electrophysiology program, established in 1984, is recognized for advances in cardiac device technology and rhythm management, and has a history of consistent academic productivity. Invasive EP procedures are performed in a new Siemens biplane hybrid Catheterization Laboratory that opened in October 2021 and is equipped with St Jude Claris and EnSite as well as Boston Scientific Maestro mapping/ablation equipment. A second Siemen’s biplane catheterization laboratory has just recently opened. At full complement, over 100 EP-related invasive catheterization procedures are performed annually. Telemetric monitoring provides remote cardiac device assessments for over 300 patients under the guidance of a Pediatric EP Nurse Practitioner. There is a close working association with Internal Medicine Cardiac Electrophysiology Associates at the on-campus Heart Hospital.

The Division of Cardiology has established full non-invasive Echocardiography and Interventional Catheterization services and a full cardiopulmonary exercise physiology laboratory. In addition to general Pediatric/Congenital Heart Cardiology, the Division provides specialized clinics in arrhythmias/devices, adult congenital heart, heart failure, heart transplant, lipid management, pulmonary hypertension and fetal cardiology. The Pediatric Cardiology Fellowship Training Program of three Fellows per year has yielded 100% job placement after completion for the past five consecutive years.

The Children’s Hospital of Michigan Medical Campus is located in close proximity to academic, cultural and professional athletic activities. In addition to multi-ethnic regional restaurants, the area provides year round access to Great Lakes activities.
